Motorized fishing kayaks are no longer one category with one obvious answer. In 2026, anglers can choose from pedal-electric hybrids, trolling-motor platforms, integrated electric systems, and other powered designs that approach the same goal in very different ways.

FluxJet Kayaks says that growing field is good for anglers. The company is not arguing that one propulsion system should replace every other option. Its position is that buyers should start with the water they fish, how they transport and launch, and the features they actually use.

The current award cycle shows how quickly the category is evolving. The VoyaX MOSSA Series received the 2026 ICAST Best Boat or Watercraft award. FluxJet entered the market a year earlier with the 2025 ICAST Best of Show and Best Boat & Watercraft awards, then received the 2025/2026 Yak Tribe People's Choice Award for Best Motorized Kayak after more than 33,000 community votes across the awards.

Different Propulsion Systems Solve Different Problems

Pedal-electric hybrids make sense for anglers who want to pedal, add electric assist when needed, and use features such as GPS position holding on platforms that support it.

Trolling-motor kayaks use a familiar propeller-based approach. For many anglers, the attraction is a mature accessory ecosystem, proven GPS-enabled motor options, and the ability to hold position in open water. The tradeoff is that a propeller or lower unit still requires clearance below the kayak while deployed.

An integrated electric jet takes a different approach. On the FluxJet, the propulsion system is built into the kayak rather than mounted below it. Nothing from the drive extends beneath the hull, and there is no pedal drive to deploy. That matters most in shallow water, around rocks and logs, and in vegetation where exposed propulsion can become a limitation.

Where FluxJet Fits

FluxJet's design priorities are simple controls, shallow-water access, a clean hull, and a drive that can be serviced rather than treated as a permanent sealed component.

Depending on rider weight and load distribution, the kayak can operate in approximately 3 to 4 inches of water. Heavy vegetation can still reach the intake, so FluxJet does not describe the system as clog-proof. The company recommends reducing throttle when approaching thick vegetation and using reverse to help clear material that reaches the intake.

The kayak also includes foot steering, forward and reverse throttle control, integrated navigation lights, USB and USB-C power, accessory tracks, and provisions for fishing electronics. Owners can keep the platform simple or build it out around the way they fish.

"The category is getting better because companies are solving different problems," said Jason Woods, Founder of FluxJet Kayaks. We focused on a simple electric kayak that can run shallow, has nothing from the propulsion system hanging below the hull, and is easy to understand and service. FluxJet Specifications

The FluxJet is 132 inches long and 35 inches wide. It weighs approximately 122 pounds fully rigged with the seat and battery box and has a total load capacity of 400 pounds for the rider, battery, and gear.

The kayak accepts compatible marine battery configurations as long as the battery system's maximum fully charged voltage does not exceed 60V. FluxJet recommends 36V for many owners. Speed and runtime depend on battery configuration, load, current, wind, and throttle use, with demonstrated top speeds of 6 mph or more under appropriate conditions.

Like any battery-powered product, continuous full-throttle operation uses more energy than cruising. Owners looking for longer runtime can reduce throttle and find a cruising speed that fits the day.

Availability

The FluxJet is priced at $3,499, including the motor and excluding the battery, plus applicable shipping and tax. A $499 deposit reserves a production slot, with the remaining $3,000 collected before final assembly.
