Vivalink Powers Translational Medicine Through Continuous Physiologic Monitoring Across Healthcare and Clinical Research
Research at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Ochsner Health demonstrates how continuous physiologic data helps translate clinical research into more actionable patient care
- Continuous monitoring with wearables addresses a key challenge of translational medicine, allowing for uninterrupted data capture that can detect physiologic changes in a patient's condition.
- Vivalink's Clinical Intelligence Platform enables automated monitoring, transmission and processing of patient data to help derive clinical insights.
- Observing patients in their everyday settings gives researchers insights to their conditions outside of controlled settings, like in the hospital or at clinical trial sites.
CAMPBELL, Calif., Oct. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Vivalink, a leading provider of digital healthcare solutions, is helping researchers translate clinical discoveries into evidence that can advance patient care. This work addresses a key challenge in translational medicine: understanding how findings observed in controlled clinical and research settings translate to the way disease, treatment response, and recovery unfold outside in patients' everyday lives. Studies using Vivalink technology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Ochsner Health demonstrate how this approach helps increase detection of clinically meaningful events and translate evidence into better-informed patient care.
A key challenge in translational medicine is capturing changes in patients' health between clinical encounters. Shifts in disease state, treatment response, or recovery may not be captured through periodic or episodic assessments alone, limiting researchers' ability to understand how clinical findings translate to real-world patient outcomes. Vivalink's Clinical Intelligence Platform addresses this gap by extending data collection beyond traditional clinical settings, giving sponsors, CROs, and health systems a single infrastructure for continuously capturing and analyzing patient data remotely. The platform combines the company's FDA-cleared and CE-marked medical-grade wearable sensors for real-time and continuous data capture, an integrated patient app, and secure cloud-based data infrastructure. It enables both research and care teams with workflows for remote patient monitoring in their everyday environments and within the real-world context of activities of daily living.
"The ability to bridge clinical research with patient care using the same data infrastructure is critical to advancing translational medicine," said Jiang Li, CEO of Vivalink. "Our platform is designed to remove the complexity of collecting, integrating, and interpreting biometric data so organizations can focus on generating insights and improving patient outcomes."
The clinical impact of Vivalink's translational data model is demonstrated by active research deployments at leading clinical institutions:
- Postoperative AFib (Brigham and Women's Hospital):
- In a prospective clinical study led by Dr. Jakob Wollborn, MD, MPH, cardiothoracic anesthesiologist and intensivist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts at the time of the study, researchers utilized Vivalink's wearable ECG patch to detect postoperative atrial fibrillation (poAF) for 14 days after discharge in open-heart surgery patients. The study found that in 24% of patients who developed poAF, the arrhythmia was first identified on the wearable ECG monitor and went completely undetected during their standard hospital stay.
- Without the wearable, 80% of these cases would have remained completely undiagnosed until their three-month follow-up in the hospital, highlighting a massive post-discharge measurement gap in standard care and proving that continuous monitoring is vital for timely cardiac intervention.
- Seizures and cardiac function (Ochsner Health):
- An epilepsy study at Ochsner Health in New Orleans, Louisiana led by neurologist Dr. Fawad Khan, MD, is leveraging Vivalink's continuous ECG monitoring infrastructure to characterize the relationship between seizures and cardiac function. The study aims to improve risk assessment and treatment for epilepsy patients through continuous, real-time heart monitoring before, during, and after seizures.
- Rather than limiting physiologic observation to the clinical settings, the study tracks patients' physiological baselines in their natural, everyday environments, allowing researchers to examine changes in cardiac physiology in connection with unpredictable neurological events.
- Continuous data garnered from the study provides clinical teams with the evidence needed to understand autonomic responses associated with seizures and identify patterns that may not be captured through intermittent measurements.
For translational medicine to influence clinical practice, researchers need ways to observe patients beyond the controlled conditions of a hospital or clinical trials. Together, these studies demonstrate how continuous physiologic monitoring provides a mechanism for collecting objective data across that divide in the environments patients live and recover.
Vivalink's Clinical Intelligence Platform is used across ambulatory cardiac monitoring, remote cardiac rehab, hospital-at-home, and decentralized clinical trial use cases. Today, more than 400 digital healthcare solutions partners and customers in 50 countries are deploying a wide range of medical applications based on its infrastructure.
